A Day with K9 Nose Work® Co-Founder Jill Marie O’Brien

Jill Marie O’Brien, co-founder of the National Association of Canine Scent Work & co-developer of the K9 Nose Work® program is coming to Santa Barbara for some fun and informative hands-on nose work workshops.


The Santa Barbara Summer Series is designed to offer nose work enthusiasts and competitors the opportunity for extended training days beyond normal training classes or practice. She will cover a variety of training exercises to develop and strengthen skills needed to create successful searches and to maximize each individual team’s potential.

This workshop is for levels NW3 (and above). Session goals include:

  • Working elevated hides:
    • Effectively reading your dog’s communication in working inaccessible hides
    • Navigating multiple hide-close sets
    • Maintaining motivation during challenging searches
  • Time management within the search environment:
    • Internalizing when and how to step in
    • Real-time evaluation of the search environment
    • Maintaining a solid connection with your partner during the search

  • Meals: light snacks will be provided.
