Inquisitive Canine Piper K9 Nose Work

Intro to K9 Nose Work® (Continuing Education)

This 6-week Intro to K9 Nose Work® (K9NW) Continuing Education course is for dogs and handlers who have completed NACSW Intro to K9 Nose Work® and Intro to Odor® courses. This course introduces four main elements of the K9NW sport including interiors, exteriors, vehicles, and containers, while shaping the dogs hunting and problem-solving skills. As with previous K9NW classes, focus is on enriching the dog’s life, tapping into their desire to play the game, and establishing good teamwork.

Overall goals for this course:

  • Continuing to build on and strengthen the dog’s hunting and problem-solving skills
  • Building the dog’s intensity for the hunting game, increasing drive and “odor obedience”
  • Boosting the dog’s confidence and independence
  • Sharpening the handler’s leash handling and observational skills (reading dog’s body language)

Day/Dates*: Saturdays, October 22, November 5, 12, 19, December 3, 10, 2022. (*Dates subject to change. Students will be given ample notice.)

Time: 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Location: Classes will be held in Santa Barbara at a private location. Address will be provided after registration is complete.

Prerequisites: Dogs and handlers have completed Intro to Nose Work, Intro to Odor, or approved by instructor. Additional “prerequisites” are that your dog needs to be comfortable around human strangers and being left alone in your car or a crate. (Only one dog is allowed on the course at a time, while all the other dogs are sequestered.) If your dog is not comfortable left alone, you are welcome to bring another human (at least 16 years old, or older) along to act as their “dog nanny.”
